About Boston Community Pediatrics

Boston Community Pediatrics (BCP) is starting a movement to change the way healthcare is
delivered to all children, regardless of income. Join us!
BCP is a nonprofit pediatric private practice, the first of its kind in Massachusetts. Its mission is to bring
equity to pediatric healthcare by offering underserved patients direct access to their primary care
provider through traditional medical office visits, telemedicine, and mobile medical services while
providing comprehensive, prevention-oriented healthcare, care navigation services, and integrated
behavioral health services.

 

About the Medical Assistant

The medical assistant is a critical member of the team, helping to create a comfortable and welcoming
environment for all patients and their families. They prepare patients for their exams and support the
providers through the administration of various tests, vaccines, etc.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect patient information and update health records

  • Administer and record patients’ vitals

  • Administer and record vaccinations

  • Perform finger sticks for glucose, cholesterol, lead and hemoglobin test

  • Perform Hearing and Vision testing

  • Perform and run covid, flu and RSV testing on ID Now machine, as well as urine testing and Strep testing

  • Explain tests and procedures to young patients and families in a reassuring manner

  • Assist providers, as needed, in the examination and treatment of distressed patients

  • Track and maintain appropriate levels of inventory

  • Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene standards of the office

  • Stock and sterilize exam rooms between patients

  • Scan daily clinical documents into EMR

  • Perform other administrative duties related to the BCP office as needed

  • Maintain proper use and cleaning of lab equipment on a daily/weekly basis

  • Check and document temperature in refrigerator and freezer on daily basis

  • Daily controls in lab

  • Daily specimen handling and ordering of Quest labs to be sent out

  • Empty sharps containers

  • Assist with scheduling of appointments and patient registration when needed

 

Requirements:

  • Medical Assistant certification

  • 2+ years working with children preferred

  • Openness to and respect for others’ cultures, identities, and lived experiences

  • Organized with the ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities/tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Detail-oriented and able to complete work accurately and efficiently

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent teamwork skills

  • Proficiency in Spanish strongly preferred

  • Ability to work independently and as part of team
